About Us

The Kansas City Cappies (KC Cappies) is a student-centered writing, theatre, and awards program that brings together high school theatre and journalism students from across the Kansas City area. Through Cappies, students are trained as student critics who attend productions at participating schools, evaluate and discuss what they see, and write professional-style reviews. Along the way, they develop skills in critical thinking, writing, communication, leadership, collaboration, and theatre criticism while gaining the opportunity to see and celebrate the work of other high school theatre programs. At the end of the season, student critics vote to recognize outstanding achievements in theatre, and the season culminates in the KC Cappies Gala at The Folly Theater, where students, educators, and theatre programs come together to celebrate the incredible work being done by high school theatre students throughout our community.
